Can't see Network devices in Explorer or Double Image

Particularly on Windows 10/11 machines, you may not see network computer names and their shares under Network while viewing in Explorer or Double Image.

The service 'Network Access Protection Agent' has been deprecated on Windows 10/11. On Windows 7, this service is present and when Started ensures that the available private network are presented in the file tree of Explorer and Double Image.

To overcome missing service(s) on Windows 10/11, try the following suggestions on a machine where Network is not showing the list of your private computer names, as you might expect. You may also see a network condition where other network computers are showing, but not your own computer name.

Open Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.

Network Discovery and File and Print Sharing should be set to selected.

Home, Work (defaults):

  • Network Discovery On (default)
  • File And Print Sharing On (default)
  • Public Folder Sharing Off (default)
  • File Sharing Connections Use 128bit encryption (default)
  • Password Protected Sharing On (default)
  • Homegroup Connections (Windows 7)
  • Use user accounts... (not on Windows 10/11)

Public (defaults):

  • Network Discovery Off (default)
  • File And Print Sharing Off (default)
  • Public Folder Sharing Off (default)
  • File Sharing Connections Use 128bit encryption (default)
  • Password Protected Sharing On (default)
